Mission de l'organisme :
CARE is a leading international humanitarian and development organization dedicated to saving lives, defeating poverty and achieving social justice. Founded in 1945, CARE began delivering CARE Packages to displaced people in Europe following the Second World War. Today, CARE Canada focuses on humanitarian relief; food security and resilience to climate change; sexual, reproductive and maternal health; and women’s empowerment. We put women and girls in the centre because we know that we cannot overcome poverty until all people have equal rights and opportunities. When equipped with the proper resources, women and girls have the power to lift whole families and entire communities out of poverty. CARE works in 93 countries around the world, reaching more than 62 million people last year alone. We seek a world of hope, inclusion and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live with dignity and security.

Résumé du projet :
The COVID-19 pandemic threatens to overwhelm healthcare resources, particularly in countries with weak public health infrastructures. We are building on our past experience responding to outbreaks of infectious disease in vulnerable communities - taking particular note that emergencies, including health crises, tend to disproportionately affect women and girls. CARE benefits from strong relationships with national and local authorities in the 100 countries where we work, longstanding community links and decades of experience in health interventions. CARE is coordinating our COVID-19 response with WHO, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and other leading public health and humanitarian actors. Emergency approach includes: Scaling up water supplies; Hygiene promotion and providing handwashing stations and demonstrations; Community engagement and guidance on risks, prevention, signs and symptoms; Gender and protection; and Psychosocial support.
